Workshop "Smart but safe" by TÜV NORD GROUP & Connected Living

On 17th October 2017 (11:00 am – 4:30 pm), the member TÜV NORD GROUP and Connected Living are jointly organizing a workshop with the focus on security and risk management in the development and supply of Smart Home and IoT applications to which we cordially invite all members of the Innovation Center.

The digitalization and the resulting intelligent connectivity of information, products and systems through the Internet of Things pose new challenges for companies. Apart from the undisputed advantages, the Internet of Things is at the same time the starting point and goal of unauthorized attacks from the outside. Considering the increasing importance of connected devices in the everyday life, especially in the Smart Home, manufacturers, integrators and operators of IoT-based products and systems are increasingly faced with the important task of providing efficient, secure access to Smart Home- and IoT technologies as well as to their services. Ensuring the quality and safety of the products are crucial criteria to prevent image loss and guarantee the trust of the customers.

The focus of the workshop is on the question how manufacturers, integrators, and system operators of Smart Home and IoT applications can ensure the security of their products and systems and reduce the associated risks and threats. In detail, we will discuss:

  • which standards and legal guidelines exist with regard to product and operational safety, and the risks and liability rules associated with non-compliance
  • which are the particularly protective features of Smart Home and IoT products, and which security requirements, roles, and responsibilities the individual stakeholders have
  • which risks and damages can trigger products and services in this context and how they can be proactively prevented or reduced (= Elaboration of concrete recommendations)
  • which are the advantages of a comprehensive risk assessment for companies and end users
  • how safety standards and the state of the art, can be further developed to better cover the needs of stakeholders
